If you like to combine your carp fishing with trying for monster catfish then take a good look at the Windmill complex. There are two lakes, both around 4 acres, holding specimen carp… but the Top Lake also offers some serious catfishing with large cats to around 80lb.
You can book the whole complex to yourselves (maximum 7 anglers) and fish whichever lake you like. The lakes are only a few metres apart so you can bivvy up together between the two and still socialise whilst fishing different lakes.
Windmill is therefore the perfect combination for a group of anglers with mixed abilities. The Main carp lake has the better stamp of carp whilst the Top lake is a real runs water that also gives you the chance to catch big cats... and you certainly know about it when you have one of these on the line, believe us!
Here’s some feedback from the 2008 season;
"Top Holiday, first time in France fishing, going to be hard to beat. Friendly owners who couldn't do enough for you."
Chris Hurst, August 2008
"Brilliant fishing, lovely lake and lovely hosts. Food was excellent, will be back in the near future. Thanks for a brilliant first trip!"
The Hawkes party, July 2008
"Excellent Food & accommodation. Great hosts. A special mention to the food, so good I even asked for a recipe! Great cook - sod that not a cook, should be chef! Would definitely come back!"
Kenny Bremner, June 2008
We don’t need to add much to that! If you’d like to read more feedback you’ll find it here.
Windmill was purchased by the current owners, Dave and Sue Bainbridge, in November 2003. Dug around 16 years ago these very attractive lakes are surrounded by a plantation of poplar trees, giving a totally secluded and peaceful environment in which to enjoy a fishing holiday. The owners live on site and are always on hand to give helpful advice and make sure you enjoy your time at Windmill Lakes. They also offer a highly praised optional food package if you don’t want the hassle of cooking for yourselves.

The slightly larger of the two lakes (the Main Lake) has been set up with the specimen carp angler in mind. Around 4 acres, it has a small island in the centre and has several secluded bays meaning anglers can fish without risk of snagging each other’s lines. There’s plenty of 30’s and some lovely 40’s in this lake, plus big grass carp. Dave has constructed two pegs around the perimeter with gravel and bark. Other swims are down to your personal choice... you can bivvy up as you wish. The lake features over-hanging trees and reed-lined margins with lily pads in several areas. Depths vary from 2.5m at the deepest to around 0.5m in the shallow margins. Stream fed, the lake has a clay bottom with gravel beds and silt.
The Top Lake is ideally suited to 3 anglers. There are no marked swims and stalking is encouraged, especially in the shallow area. Depths range from 2.5m to 0.5m. There is a long island with plenty of over-hanging trees giving good cover. Poplar trees surround the lake and there is a forest to one side with fields to the other.

Full use of a lovely lakeside chalet is included in the price. It’s situated on the left hand side of the Main Lake, about 15 metres from the water’s edge and being in an elevated position it has a fabulous view across the venue. There’s sleeping for up to 4 people and a kitchen area with gas hob, fridge, sink, table and chairs. Bedding, cutlery and crockery are supplied. Please note that mains water and electricity are not connected but there is 12 volt solar powered lighting and pumped fresh water. A 240v silent generator can be hired on site if required.

There is no toilet or shower in the lakeside chalet but these are available at the owners house around 350m away. Both the toilet and shower have separate outside entrances and are therefore available at all times. There’s also a fridge and freezer available for bait storage.
An added bonus is a large out building adjacent to the water’s edge which makes an ideal dry storage area for gear and bait.
Also near the lake there is a large caravan that can sleep 4 adults which has an oven, hob and small fridge. There is crockery and cooking utensils and quilts and linen can be supplied for a small charge (an awning can be added to the caravan to give more room). This is very basic accommodation but could be OK for a flexible non-angler... ring the office for more details. Please note - there are no toilet or shower facilities inside this caravan, you would still need to use those adjacent to the house.
Of interest to non-anglers is that Euro Disney is a comfortable 3 hour drive away - the owners will be happy to arrange advanced bookings for you.
Equipment hire:
TV, DVD player and use of DVD library - 20 euros per week
Silent Generator - 30 euros per week plus fuel
Bait-boat - 90 euros per week

A complete food package is available for £98 per person.
If you book the food package you will be asked to pay a 10% deposit to Angling Lines and the balance to the lake in euros when you arrive. Please note that due to fluctuations in the exchange rate the balance you pay when you arrive may not equate exactly to the remaining 90% in £’s sterling – it may be slightly more or less due to a change in the exchange rate

The owners stocked additional fish into the Main Carp Lake at the end of 2003, consisting of commons and mirrors to 40lb and 22 grass carp between 30 & 40lb. A further 30 fish, including 4 sturgeon, were added to the Carp Lake during the winter of 2004/05.
The Top Lake was stocked with around 200 smaller carp in 2003. These have grown very rapidly and in addition 18 catfish and 2 grass carp were stocked in January 2005. Here's an estimated stocking list for the Top Lake:
- 10 - 14lb carp... around 100
- 14 - 20lb carp... around 60
- 20 - 30lb carp... around 20
- 30lb+... at least 4
