What did you find were the best tactics/baits: we caught all the fish on Nash Tutti Frutti 15mm bottom baits with boilie freebies. All but one of the fish came to the shallow bay end of the lake.

What did you find were the best tactics/baits: Mainline Cell boilies to shallow end with PVA fake corn seemed to work well, but maize caught the biggest fish. Most fish came from open water, but almost all the bigger fish from close to the far bank!

Brief details of your catches: 12 Fish in total - 6 X 20+ and 6 X 10+. Biggest of the week was 2 x 28lb Mirror's one fell to Irish Cream and one to Mainline Active 8.

What did you find were the best tactics/baits: Try someting different - I have been there twice this season and have noticed a difference in the way the fish feed, and there patrol route, when fishing off the dam wall to the tree line, i was getting drop backs, when fishing across the lake to the tree line, the fish where self hooking and i was getting the runs.Last time we caught most of the fish between 3pm and 9pm. this time 95% of the fish where caught between 8pm and 4am. try and double up at night, its hard to stay awake all night.its worth taking a good quality fishmeal boile at the moment as they are wising up to some of the Quest baits that are going in.Tight lins did the trick again, make sure you fish with a good quality line ( x-line ) and some strong hooks, Carp 'R' Us century 2000 worked for me, and Drennan Continental ( however i did bend 2 of these when fishing in the snags )Keep your rigs simple, blow back rigs etc are more than ample, make sure your rigs are safe also, and dont fish bolt rigs to the snags and dont back lead, fish inline only to the snags and tight lines ( backleaded lines are not tight) bolt rigs worked out of the silt for 2 or the fish.

General comments: The fishing was hard this week, a few days before the trip i got in touch with josie who told me that they where feeding on bloodworm. I managed to get hold of 5kg of bloodworm boilie to try out. ( they where having none of that, and i am glad i took 10KG's of Active 8, as the fish loved it ) However when we got there i knew that it was going to be a hard week, the tempreture was mid to high 20's, there was no breeze on the lake and the previous group had only caught 18 between the 3 of them. The day we left the morning air tempreture was 1 degree. not the most consistant weather for carp fishing, this is what made it hard going Once Chas nets the lake and the smaller carp are removed, there will be a big weight increase for the fish. the lake should then start to produce more regular 30's and new 30's. it should also start to produce some of the 40's that are in there.

General comments: A difficult journey to the lake due to mechanical fault on car. Chas and Josie were excellent and very helpful and got it sorted out for us - thank you both so much. Really enjoyed Chas's daily Rig School (Uncle Chas). Fishing was hard at times, we think due to the fact that the fish were feeding on Bloodworm - well worth bringing some natural baits (worms etc), if you have some, as a backup if the conventional baits don't work. What did you find were the best tactics/baits: Either against the dam wall or tight to the far bank using lead-clips or in-line 3oz minimum leads (no baitrunners). A variety of 15, 18 & 20mm boilies (particularly Tutti Fruiti) were used on a standard hair-rig with size 6 or 8 hooks.

Were the facilities what you expected? Yes. We came here last year.

Were you happy with them? Yes, hence our return this year.

Would you recommend the venue to a friend? Yes. it has everything you could even want including excellent accommodation.

General comments: Whilst we thoroughly enjoyed our holiday, the fishing was generally very hard going, despite Chas' best endeavours to offer his expert advice regarding tactics these proved to be of little reward. Dont necessarily stick to any one particular method/tactic and be prepared to fish all available pegs. Stalking the big fish can pay dividends. Our holiday (like everyone else) was everything to do with the fishing and whilst we appreciate that big carp fishing is not easy, the results were very disappointing and we believe this is reflected generally in the results throughout the year. Nevertheless, the hospitality offered by Josie and particularly Chas was second to none and we will definitely return another year.

What did you find were the best tactics/baits: None in particular, most fish were caught using the most basic tactics ie - single boilie cast mid water. The advice to bait heavily the far bank resulted in only a few fish between 4 anglers, fishing 3 rods each, for around 18 - 20 hrs per day all week.

General comments: This was our second visit. Being more experienced anglers using " high tec " tactics We expected much more. My friend and I fished from the platform again , using the methods advised and it was dire to say the least. There must be a causeway of bait along the far bank and the fish didnt want to know. I dont believe there are as many fish in the lake as Chas thinks.We went to catch bigger and better fish but I have no doubt that the money would have been better spent fishing a quality venue in the UK and I will not be returning. Check th photos in the house - many are of the same fish !!!!

What did you find were the best tactics/baits: Had to alternate baits and tactics. Used boiles and tigers, for the first couple of days they wouldn't have boilies and we caught on the tigers, then boilies caught for the next few days. Had to really think about the baiting. Just because you are in France, doesn't mean the fishing is easy. We had to work for our fish, but it was worth it for the catches we had.

General comments: Fantastic venue, Chas is a legend. Although the fishing was slow at first, Chas did his best to help us. My step-daughter didn't catch a carp. But that didn't dampen her spirits. The knowledge that Chas passed on to her is priceless and she will take that from this and put it to good use. Thanks Chas & Josie & Buddy. Hope to see you soon. Chas was brilliant with Lisa, but despite all his knowledge and help she still blanked. I managed to catch one carp from the dam corner. Unfortunately we were very limited to the swims we could fish to, basically the dam wall. However the fish always seemed to feed at the other end of the lake and then showed to middle once they had finished feeding. I would definitely recommend that parties of four draw straws for their swims to keep it fair. To sum up, we were very disappointed for what was a very expensive holiday. What did you find were the best tactics/baits: Carp were spawning until Thursday so fishing was slow but still managed to pick a few up off the surface. Fished here before and definitely advise the serious anglers out there to make sure they bring a baitboat.

General comments: Somebody has to get the week that the fish are spawning and this year it was us, but it did nothing to spoil our holiday as with my wife and new son (8 months) we'd returned for the quality and comfort offered by the venue and had a great time relaxing in the sunshine anyway and I was never going to be fishing hard. The fish have started to respond to surface baits which allowed me to pick a couple of fish per hour stalked and just as we were leaving on the Friday the carp had got their heads down in the silt feeding hard post spawning, so good luck to the new arrivals. P.S. If you have any problems with the satellite TV reception ask Chas to clear away the foliage on the side of the house, seriously!!!

Brief details of your catches: A prolific week! 41 carp... 3 x 30lb+....7 x 24lb+....6 x 20lb+....26 between 15 & 20lb. This was fishing 12 hour days only. The more it rained the more I caught!

What did you find were the best tactics/baits: Quest Rahja, Irish Cream & Special Crab fished over Garlic Feast, pellet & sweetcorn. Caught loads but used loads of bait... 15kg of boilies, 20kg Garlic Feast, 15kg of pellet. The fish were really on the feed. Caught on baits tight to the far bank but also on a spot in the middle of the lake about 30m off the sluice. The fishing got better as the week went on as the swims built up & the fish got used to finding bait there.

Were the facilities what you expected? Excellent of course. Chas has done a lot of work around the lake since I was last there 4 years ago. Credit to him - an angler could not ask for more.

Were you happy with them? Of course...

Would you recommend the venue to a friend? Deffinitely. If you're looking for high quality accommodation and plenty of action you'll not find better.

General comments: Vaux is a dream location for anglers & non-anglers alike. The weather was pretty bad with rain most days but that really seemed to get the fish going. This was some of the most prolific fishing I've had in 20 years of fishing in France.

General comments: Well, this is our 7th visit to Vaux and the place just gets better. The facilities for carp fishing are second to none. What did you find were the best tactics/baits: Tight off far bank, come back 1 metre under trees - tunnel, tight in against dam wall and corner. Various baits from lake and few of our own

Were the facilities what you expected? 1st Class for house/cleanliness of surroundings, even for washing machine

General comments: Well, first of all a great big thanks to Chas and Josie (and Buddy ... from Jean)for all his info on how to fish his lake, equipment supplied (not to mention ground sheet), even down to showing us around the lake (hot spots) and making our rigs (from Colin). He gives you his time even to have a chat about the lake, other lakes .... anything really. Very quiet and tranquil surroundings (Jean's going home for a rest because she's knackered - because she doesn't usually fish - look at Catch Report). Excellent time had by all. Will be back a.s.a.p. Brief details of your catches: 14 Carp, 2 x 30's, 6 x 20's all the rest below 20lbs. Lots of tench and roach. 2 pike to 8lb.

What did you find were the best tactics/baits: Keep your lines tight, and listen to Chaz, he goes on a bit, but he's ok. The only thing is he scares you into borrowing things you don't need. I find that irritating. He basically told us that our equipment was not up to scratch. We have been to 2 other venues and they were fine.

General comments: Fishing was hard work but that was due to the really bad weather. Chaz wouldn't leave us alone for about 3 hours a day. His info was quite good but he scares you, he thought we were not fishermen which was out of order. P.S. These comments are not Angling Lines fault. We have been very happy before, we've found you very accommodating and helpful.

General comments: Fantastic venue, superb gite, the lake is stunning, a fishing paradise. Many thanks to Chas for his A1 knowledge. We lost 17+ fish due to poor line; make sure you're on quality fluorocarbon. Best venue I have been to in France. Be warned, Chas, we may be back!

What did you find were the best tactics/baits: Fish to margins far bank, wall and sluice - T1 boilies and pop/ups introduced by ourselves, once established fished well. Snag swims - p/ups, corn and T1. Vary Bait

General comments: After two previous experiences in France we were overwhelmed with the surroundings and the constant vigil of Chas keeping the lake in pristine condition - the showers were a delight and most welcoming after a night in the bivvy. The accommodation was excellent (what little we stayed in it). Even though there was a TV, I think it was switched on once - one can actually get into reading - (nice selection of books too!) x 4 read !!! Mum outdid us all with over 600lbs of fish - beginner's luck - We will definitely return!

Brief details of your catches: 21 fish in total caught - 20 plus fish lost throughout the week. 11 x double to 19lb04oz - 9 x 20s to 28lb & 2 x 35lb+

What did you find were the best tactics/baits: I found that washed out Quest Irish Cream boilie on a small bed of mixed carp pellets and a few chops caught the 20+ carp. Bed of pellets and particles did the trick for the smaller carp, with the majority of the smaller carp coming out over from the dam wall/sluice using double pop up corn and larger carp were being caught on the washed out Irish Cream Boilie over on the far bank. Fish tight lines with clear leader and in-line leads (Fox 3-5oz) are ample - ensure that your main line is a good quality with little or no stretch at all especially if you're fishing between the tunnel at the far end of the lake - I lost 20 + fish in the week from the tunnel due to poor quality of line I used (P-Line). I would also use good quality hooks - I lost 3 fish due to bent hooks during the week on Fox Arma Point - they aren't supposed to bend, but they did. Listen to what Chas has to say - he is full of information and knows the lake like the back of his hand - be patient - sit on your rods with tight lines (bow string tight) and hit into the single bleeps. Ensure you take a baitboat to get under the overhanging branches and into the tunnel. Get your boilies when you get there and start to wash them out in lake water - they normally take 3 days to soften and look washed out.

General comments: What a fantastic venue, the lake, fish & gite, we couldn't have asked for more. The glacon is something that I will be trying myself at home as long as I can keep it frozen for long enough. Thanks to Josie, Chas & Buddy for your warm hospitality throughout the week, big thanks to Chas for his advice, we would have struggled if we hadn't had his knowledge and guidance - the fish were top quality, not a mark on them - there is no doubt that this is one of the best venues I have ever fished and I will be booking again very soon Chas, that 55 will be mine soon Tight lines Rich
