Following on from his success with the big fish venue Laroussi, Mehdi Daho opened a new venue just across the road in March 2006 – he called it called Old Oaks. We’ve worked with Mehdi for 5 years now and he is without doubt one of the most dedicated owners we have ever met. His knowledge of carp fishing, his attention to detail in every aspect of customer care and his sheer love of what he does means that any fishery he's involved with has to be a success... and Old Oaks is definitely a success. Take a look at the customer feedback and read for yourself, but here's some examples;
"We had an incredible week's hauling taking no less than 67 carp between us including 27 carp over 30lb! My mate Darren bagged a 38lb common, my other mate Clint a common of 37lb whilst I managed two different 35lb mirrors! We also had some Grass Carp to over 25lb! Old Oaks is a class venue for the angler who likes to get plenty of runs."
Lewis Porter, Crafty Carper Editor, August 2008
"38 fish in total; 12 x 30’s... all the rest 20lb+... only 2 poisson chat. Thanks again Mehdi, see you again soon."
Mr Smith, September 2008
"39 fish in total including a 40lb common, 14 x 30's, 21 x 20's with only 3 below 20. Mehdi was very helpful but he left you alone to fish without interference."
Mike Goode, September 2008

Old Oaks is a 34 year old virgin gravel pit of around 5 acres, situated just opposite Laroussi, around 3 hours from Caen. It had never been fished before 2006, being left wild and undisturbed since it was dug. A delightfully pretty little water it will comfortably accommodate 5 anglers and will accept single bookings... or you can book it exclusively just for your party.
Fishing is from one bank and is certainly exciting with a host of features including, plateaus, weed beds, gullies and overhanging vegetation that just scream ‘carp’. Vehicle access is possible along all of the fishing bank.
Poisson Chat can be a problem in the summer months (mainly June & July) so go prepared to net your baits in these months. Plastic corn above a bed of hemp and partiblend has proved to be a very effective method and a baitboat gives you a great advantage.
If you’d like some tips on combating Poisson Chat here’s a couple of video clips you’ll find useful;

In spring 2006 the facilities were completed on Old Oaks. The owner, Mehdi, spent months and months building a perfect venue - every detail has been thought through - so it's not surprising that the facilities are top class too.
Inside the wooden chalet you will find;
- washing facilities, including a sink and a high tap to fill up your drinking water bottles
- a work surface with plenty of English plugs for the batteries, baitboats, mobile phone etc
- a hot shower and wash basin
- an English style toilet
- 2 brand new very large Lieberr fridges for your food
- freezer for your bait
- outside plug for your electric barbecue.
There is a picnic area in front of the facilities which include a barbecue and a wooden picnic table.

NEW - You can hire a baitboat at this venue. Click here for more information.
The lake does hold a significant number of original fish. These carp are mostly very dark mirrors, averaging around 25lb in weight, as well as a few smaller commons.
Additional fish were added in November 2005 - click here to see the details. This was followed by more stockings in early 2006. Each time only top quality fish were introduced - all handpicked by Mehdi. As the catch reports show the stock levels are very good - there's certainly no shortage of fish.
Take a look at the catch returns and you’ll see that Old Oaks delivers a lot of 30’s... and we know of at least 4 different forties; a 43lb mirror , 40lb 6oz mirror , 42lb mirror and an immaculate 42lb common.
Old Oaks has made a big impact already... and as the fish grow it can only get better and better. Looks like Mehdi has got another winner on his hands!
