Brief details of your catches: My 3rd PB from Mas Bas - 48lb Mirror. Lost several others by not listening to Gilles the owner for the first couple of days about rigs.

What did you find were the best tactics/baits: You need good watercraft skills and a 'different' approach for this beautiful& sometimes tricky water. Gilles rigs out fished mine 4 to 1! big hooks, long links and big leads. Bait, Rahja Spice, Liver, Fishmeal and Fruit boilies all worked.

Were the facilities what you expected? Simple French Farmhouse with a fully functioning kitchen, with all of the facilities you need for a family holiday. Wife happy, job done!

Were you happy with them? Yes, please pass the corkscrew

Would you recommend the venue to a friend? Yes, the venue is in a stunning location, in rural france with a view of tranquil lake and french countryside

Would you recommend our services to a friend? Yes

General comments: This lake is stunning and rewarding for the fisherman who is prepared to stalk and work for their fish. Do listen to Gilles his knowledge will guide you to the big ones! Lesley and Gilles are great hosts who will respond to any requests for assistance with the lake or the house. Great for the kids, wife was happy relaxing whilst we fished, and the surrounding towns made for great days out. We will definitely be returning.

Brief details of your catches: 1 mirror of 24lb and 1 of 14lb. only saw 2 fish moving all week!!! Very hard fishing with no rewards.

What did you find were the best tactics/baits: Nothing worked.

Were the facilities what you expected? No, far from it.

Were you happy with them? No,not at all.

Would you recommend our services to a friend? Yes, but not for Mas Bas.

General comments: Not a very good venue. I expected more from Angling lines. The venue smelt of dead fish. No fish showing or seen on the main lake or lotus lake. Lots of work needed on both lake to make this a fishery. A fifth of main lake less than a foot deep with thick silt on the bottom. Lotus lake needs the lillys cutting right back to make the lake fishable. They are also dangerous for the fish if you manage to catch one. airaters are on for 12 hours nght from 2100hrs till 0900hrs. These stop you fishing lotus lake. As for main lake the only place you can getaway from the noise is down the shallow end. ***** Reply form the Mas Bas owners; First of all we are very sorry that Mr. Gallagher did not enjoy his holiday at Mas Bas. Gilles and I do as much as possible to ensure that people enjoy themselves and catch well, but as we have always said Mas Bas is not a really easy beginners water to fish. Unfortunately Gilles was not able to be there whilst Mr. Gallagher was there. However I visited on several occasions and asked if everything was o.k., were there any problems etc etc? If he had mentioned that the aerators were too noisy I could easily have turned them off for a while. No problem was mentioned to me at all. The first time I visited the 24lb was in the process of being caught, which I think was a personal best for Mr. Gallaghers friend. On non of my visits did I see Mr. Gallagher fishing and when I enquired why this was, he explained to me that he was here "just for a relaxing holiday". The smell of dead fish I cannot explain at all or respond to as again there was no complaint & therefore no investigation made. I can confirm that we have deffinitely had no fisjh deaths I'm aware of. There are shallows at either side of the main lake & this is where many fish show, but there are as many fish caught in the deeper water as are in the shallows, so really this makes no difference at all ************

General comments: It's our 2nd visit to Mas Bas,the weather was not too hot this time so the fishing was better. The setting is lovely and Leslie & Giles are great.

Brief details of your catches: Fished the Lotus lake. Dave 1 carp 14lb, 3 coypu and a terrapin! John 3 carp under 20lb (2 from main lake). Found the fishing very hard this year. VERY hot with water temps of 28c! Air temp one day was 42c.

What did you find were the best tactics/baits: Baits were boilies or maize. All baits had to be very tight to lilly pads. Crayfish a problem this year. Fishmeal boilies had to be netted but crays still attacking them eventually.

General comments: A lot of the lotus lilly beds have been really cut back to increase amount of water fishable. I do not feel this has worked. All the carp seem to have retreated to the unfishable very far end. The amount of features to fish to has reduced and nothing was coming from open water. This is a hard water, my fish was a last night consolation. however the fish are there as last year i had carp to 44lb from main lake and saw carp caught to 48lb from Lotus lake.

Brief details of your catches: Mirrors: 1 x 46.0, 1 x 35.0, 1 x 22.0, and others 15.0 - 20.0. Commons: 1 x 25.0, 2 x 20.0. Grass 1 x 20.0, and numerous bream

What did you find were the best tactics/baits: Keep the noise down! don't scare the fish away. Fishing throughout the night. Most fish caught near the central lily pads on main lake. The biggest fish were caught on Quest baits 20mm Smokey Fish boilies. We used size 1 microbarbed hooks with 4oz Grippa leads.

General comments: Giles and Lesley were very aimable and helpful. The venue is delightful and scenic. Large supermarkets in Agen are half an hour drive (E.Leclerc, Intermarche, Geant, Carrefour)so there is plenty of choice. Do note that they close on sundays. Buzet wine is good! There are 2 fishing tackle shops on the outskirts of Agen "Rayonne de Peche" is opposite Intermarche and the other shop is close to the Geant supermarket - behind the bowling alley. These shops are ideal for hooks, pva etc. We flew to Bordeaux and hired equipment and rods from Giles. We took our own reels and alarms and just managed to keep within the weight allowance! flight was 1 hour 25 minutes from Birmingham. Journey to Mas bas 2 hours. We would certainly visit again.

Brief details of your catches: 1 common carp 19lb 2oz from Lotus Lake and two fish from main lake. 1 common carp 17lb 10oz and 1 grass carp 16lb10oz. Thanks to the guys on the main lake for letting me drop into the corner as nothing was showing on Lotus Lake.

What did you find were the best tactics/baits: Boilies or maize tight up against the lilies although small skimmer bream proved to be a nuisance this year.

General comments: 2nd time at Mas Bas.Fishing a slight improvement on last time when I blanked, possibly due to frosts at night, but very few fish came out of either lake.Doubtfull if there will be a third time.

General comments: Stayed at the Willow Cottage and fished the Lotus Lake. This is a stunning location with excellent accommodation and friendly hosts. Shame about the fishing though as this was the worst I have experienced in 6 years fishing in France. There was very little sign of fish and even though I fished 4 nights and tried most tactics I could not locate them. Would still like to return however as it is such a great place.

General comments: A beautiful setting for the fishing and for the family. Nice pool, good house and no noise. Well worth the long drive.

What did you find were the best tactics/baits: We all tried everything. What bites we did have were on floating bread.

Were you happy with them? The whole place was run down, the kitchen had seen better days, the draw front fell off on the first day.

General comments: 8 angler, 22 rods, 13 fish, 2 large, 1 medium the rest small. Total of around 1500 miles, driving 24 hours. 3 fish, the whole place and the lake needs attention T.L.C. (Thank goodness the weather and the company was great)

What did you find were the best tactics/baits: Fished to feature, ie. pads, island, margins. Lightly baited with boilies, ehmp & corn. Fished boilies on hook. Used Elite baits Cream Cracker, Ocean Fruit & Christmas Cracker; caught on all 3.

Brief details of your catches: Only fished intermittently as this was not meant to be a fishing holiday!, I found Lotus lake difficult as the carp were held up in the Lotus lillies. Caught a lovely carp in great condition. Spent a couple of hours also stalking in the arm of the main lake, lovely and exciting to see the groups of big carp just inches from my bait but all I got for my trouble was cramp!

What did you find were the best tactics/baits: Never fished for more than an hour or so. Weather was very changeable. The guys on the main lake faired much better fishing full time from the front of lake house. Caught on Rajah Spice Quest bait snowman.

General comments: I had promised my partner a non fishing holiday and Mas Bas is a great place to be angler or not!- so time was very limited with rods in the water. Gilles has decided to take out a nother large chunk of the Lotus lily pads as are reducing the catch rates on Lotus. Should be done by now 3/7/08. Celebrated Gilles Birthday while we were there too. Photo's below also shows the newly installed aerator on the main lake in the background and Gilles, Leslie, Tao and myself clelebrating his birthday with plenty of good local wine! :-)

General comments: Think that the Lotus lake needs a lot of work, due to lotus lillies. Fish stay in them and it reduced how much of the pool you can fish. Need more big fish stock.

General comments: Unfortunatly my father was taken seriously ill while we were there. Without Leslie i don't think he would be with us now. Giles was fantastic, and got up early to take me to hospital so we could airlift him home. They are such wonderful people and were so good to us. I cannot praise them enough. We are definitely going back. They have become part of the family. The venue itself is beautiful, we refer to it as "A little peice of heaven" Bridget and the rest of the team at Angling Lines were brilliant. Thank you all
