Hideaway Stocking:
Thursday 21st February saw me on the banks of Hideaway Lake in Normandy for the stocking of a new batch of Carp.
The day started early at Michel Bigot’s Fish Farm where the fish were netted, weighed and loaded into the tanks on the truck. The lake had ordered a batch of some seventy fish ranging from upper doubles to mid thirties and one sturgeon.
Thirty six of these fish were in the 17-21lb bracket. Twenty four fish ranged from 22-26lb. Finally the larger fish included carp, both mirrors and commons, from 27lb to 34lb. In all there were seven thirties from 30-34lb plus seven others from 26-27.5lb. The total was 74 fish.
Finally there was also one sturgeon of 33lb stocked.
These fish added to the existing stocks should ensure that anglers enjoy some excellent sport at the venue this season. As a by-stander and the photographer I can honestly say they were immacualte carp as I think you will be able to see from the photos.

Details: Mr Thomas & Mr Hart
Following previous weeks success Hideaway continues to steadily produce.
Gary "golden" Thomas and angling friend Terry Hart (not Hearn) fishing daytime only, managed to tease out 23 carp to just over 27lb plus a cat of 30lb 8oz - the outlet end of the lake being the most productive, "tutti frutti" flavour rather than fishmeal being their approach to more carp capture than cats, which obviously worked.
Had they night fished who knows what their total would have been, with six losses between them including 2 snap-offs they were happy with their results and thats what matters!!.
I hope to see them again. Good luck guys.

Details: August at Hideaway
Unfortunately August was a very unproductive month, at Hideaway. High temperatures, thunder storms & constant changes in pressure took there toll. Both carp and cats we're very unco-operative no matter how persistant and versatile the various party of anglers were.
Tom, Jamie and Chris struggled but stuck to the task, taking three nice carp and a 39lb 12oz cat, with a couple of losses. Wife Dawn and daughter Georgia amused themselves by catching half the roach/rudd in the lake!
Paul and Kim Hunt must be the unluckiest couple to arrive at Hideaway. Whilst full of praise for the venue and the hunting lodge, he arrived after smashing the front of his Jaguar car only two hours before. I really felt for the guy, only one take all week - he was using 45lb braid, catfish pro hooks, 50lb catfish mainline braid & he still suffered an abrasive snap-off - he was understandably gutted (the monster from the deep succeeds again).
Phil and Sharon Woodcock and Wayne Kettle, nice folks from my neck of the woods in England, arrived next. Phil the most experienced of the group blanked, bless him, hooked into a big one but lost it. Sharon had two carp to 21lb 14oz. Wayne, the lesser experienced (he'll tell you that) smashed his P.B with carp to 25lb 3oz! Well done to him.
September arrives and Cornish men do what only Cornish men can do (pardon the pun). Roy, Jim and Mick fishing.... Wendy and Sue, attending to their needs!
Jim (Kernow) Brown: 20 carp to 26lb 2oz (no pasties) + 3 baby cats to 8lb, 6 losses including 1 unstoppable catfish.
Mike Fisher: 10 carp to 22lb 6oz + 1 baby cat of 5lb, 3 losses.
Roy Woodhatch: 3 carp to 26lb 4oz
In my opinion these guys worked hard and used all their water craft skills. They did their homework and acheived optimum results from what has been a very disappointing month. My congratulations to them.

Michael and Angela Ewing. High temperatures. Humid conditions. Clear skies, not ideal carping conditions by any means. Water levels very low, stream inlets at their lowest this year. What can i say!.
Michael i have knicknamed "THE ANALYST" a true tactician, he is the complete carper.
He got smashed 3 times with a huge cat that i was not even aware of, obviously a resident from way back, estimated to be 100lb plus.
Armalites 3.5lb tc, 50lb braid, UNSTOPPABLE.
Recognising his experience, i'm gobsmacked.
Only the future will tell!!!
Angela caught 3 carp, 2 being PBs largest going 24lb 15oz (Female lake record), plus a cat of 32lb (Female lake record).Congratulations.
Michael landed 2 cats, 30lb and 31lb both PBs. Respect to both of them. This week would have been a very difficult but new experience to them both, it's a shame the carp didn't cooperate but "THATS FISHING"

The Holroyd Party, or the should i say, "The Royale Family".
Paul had 4 carp 22lb 12oz, 12lb, 12lb 4oz, 11lb 5oz and a 32lb catfish.
Tony alias "Victor Meldrew" (one foot in the grave) had 2 carp 12lb 4oz and 12lb 8oz... plus a life jacket, two life buoys and a rubber ring!!! and still he never spilt his whisky).
Kaz had 3 kittens to 1lb 8oz,+ more roach along with Tony to mention.
Paul was over the moon, with the largest fish of his life. Father-in-law Tony enjoyed the moment and didn't care if he caught or not. Kaz was just happy to give us all stick.
"What a family they should be in TV."
I had the time of my life and would love for them to come back, light hearted atmosphere, if we catch we catch, if we don't we are still going to enjoy it. THATS FISHING!!!

Very high temperatures, coupled with fish immenently spawning made sport very slow. Lower temperatures in the second part of the week saw Pete, Paul and Kevin, land 7 fish with 10 losses. The largest carp being Pauls a common of 26lb 4oz. Kevin caught a cat fish of 29lb, and Pete a PB for him of 15lb 8oz. Whilst the lake was a little unproductive the lads really enjoyed themselves, and have threatened to come back again soon...

Phil,Sue & Darren worked very hard during a week of bright sunshine and temperatures reaching 30 degrees, despite difficult conditions they managed to entise 22 fish. Carp ranging from 7.5lb to 28lb plus a cat of 24.5lb,between them they had about 10 losses. Imminent spawning probably accounted for Hideaway being less productive over the past 2 weeks, but all things considered not a bad result.Regards Pete (bailiff)

Details: Latest catches from Hideaway Lake
After a week of high winds, rain, rain and more rain, Clive, Nick, Callum and Matt returned back to England with everyone achieving a new PB.
34 fish were caught ranging from 10lb to 39lb, of which 12 were well over 20lb, and 6 fish nearer 30lb than 25lb.
Nick caught 2 catfish weighing 27 and 37lb. He also lost a far bigger cat, which snapped his 15lb mainline.
Steve a friend of theirs fished for 2 days capturing a 28lb and a 24.25lb carp.
Callum an enthusiastic 14 years old claimed 16 of the fish including the lake record so far, a 39lb common. (Well done!)
Congratulations to young Matt, who broke his previous PB three times.
Halibut boilies and pellet being the most successful bait for carp and dead bait roach for the catfish. Considering the weather conditions, I think they all did very well.
I would like to personally thank them all, for their courtesy and consideration in the way they handled the fish and making my job and easy one.

Details: Hello from Pete the Baliff
Hi, Pete the bailiff here......
Hideaway lake is benefiting from the warmer weather with the carp showing great activity in last couple of weeks. Whilst putting the final touches to the grounds for first customers we thought we'd put a couple of rods out, result being 32lb5oz mirror for myself and a 31.5lb cat for my stepson Mike, both caught on double 15mm dynamite halibut boilies - not a bad start for an old un and his "protégé"!
That's enough of us. Rich, Dan, Luke and the lovely Jenny & Rose arrive for a weeks fishing, Rich and Dan would be the first to admit they weren't the worlds most experienced carp anglers but in my opinion as bailiff they were genuine and honest guys and a pleasure to have on site - and didn't they do well!
Dan had 16 carp ranging from 10lb 8oz to 23lb 12oz and Rich 14 carp from 10lb to 29lb 4oz, with at least 6 snap-offs without their losses.
WELL DONE GUYS.
p.s. awaiting their photos.
There's a challenge for the next clients...
Regards

Had great news from our bailiff Pete - whom I must say is our greatest asset (apart from our carp of course!)
Our first booking, Mr. Ward's party, apparently had a great time & caught 29 carp up to 30lbs - including a leather which we didn't know we had! They all praised the lodge and also thanked Pete for his help - watch this space for the photos.
Also I believe new personal bests were achieved by both anglers.
Well done glad you had such a good time. Great news for us!

Details: New Stock Arrives!
"STRONG, LIVELY and full of VITALITY", the first three words that come into my head.
Thanks to Gareth of Angling Lines - his recommendation of a supplier of carp in France brought Hideaway Lake 50 of the most superb looking fighting machines I have ever seen. As I say again thanks to Gareth - they are not as cheap as some suppliers but then quality is never cheap. These coupled with some local monsters sourced from a private local water sees Hideaway looking forward to the 2006 season and regular heavy catches for our guests.
New owners, an experienced bailiff and constant improvement to this intimate venue hidden away from the rest of the world, will be perfect both for the serious angler and family alike. Gwen & Terry, not forgetting Michael are passionate about their new acquisition and as an experienced carp angler and now bailiff I am proud to be their face in France.

Details: Pete here, just a quick update.
Fishing has been a bit slow over the last couple of weeks - weather has not been good - bright and very hot. Lets hope the current rain and cloud will improve things.
However, 15 cats have been banked over the past 3 weeks to 32lb with PB'S for two separate clients, and a few others have been lost. Carp haven't been feeding to well - but a number of nice fish to mid
20's

Details: Hideaway’s new stock arrive
Friday morning, with temperatures below zero, saw Hideaway’s new stock arrive. As the lorry pulled in we were nervous – you’re never sure if you are going to get what you ordered! However, this new stock was from the same fish farm we have always used so quality and condition were assured.
We were warmed up by the sight of the first big fish out the tank… 30lb +!!
All were commons in pristine condition - in total over1/2 ton. The fist 3 fish were all over 30lbs+, the majority being 20lbs +.
To be honest we were expecting 15lbs to 20lb’ers but obviously we’re not disappointed at the size of this new stock! We took a few photos, but it was so cold and such hard work and our main concern was to get the fish into the lake. Well over an hour later we had finished… a good day for all.
This new stocking will ensure Hideaways anglers continue next season were they left off last - so far every party from Angling Lines has produced a 30lb +
So we expect some records broken in 2005 with some excellent photos to accompany them!
